GREASE IS A SEMI-
SOLID LUBRICANT CONSISTING OF A HIGH VISCOSITY MINERAL OIL AND METALLIC SOAP
WITH A FILLER.
SOAPS
ARE COMPOUNDS OF A METAL BASE--CALCIUM, SODIUM, ALUMINIUM--WITH FATTY ACIDS OBTAINED
FROM ANIMAL OR VEGETABLE
FILLERS
ARE LEAD, ZINC, GRAPHITE, MOLYBDENUM DISULPHIDE. FILLERS ENABLE GREASE TO
WITHSTAND SHOCK AND HEAVY LOADS.

ACT AS A SEAL

USEFUL FOR INACCESSIBLE PARTS.
APPLICATION
OF GREASE:
CALCIUM
SOAP GREASES ARE WATER RESISTANT AND HAVE A MELTING POINT OF ABOUT 95°C AND ARE
SUITABLE FOR LOW SPEEDS. SODIUM SOAP GREASES HAVE A HIGH MELTING POINT, ABOUT
200°C ARE SUITABLE FOR HIGH SPEEDS BUT EMULSIFY IN WATER. ALUMINIUM SOAP GREASE
HAS A HIGH LOAD CARRYING CAPACITY.
